Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has suggested the former National Democratic Party administration should be taken to the Human Rights Commission over long-standing water problems. The Premier made the comment during a heated exchange with Sixth District Representative Myron Walwyn in the House of Assembly.
Walwyn had questioned whether the government's failure to provide reliable water could be a human rights violation. Premier Wheatley accused the NDP administration of doing nothing to address water problems during their term from 2011 to 2019.
The exchange became contentious, with the Speaker intervening to demand the Premier answer the question. The issue of water problems remains a concern in the territory.
